Alana Kessler MS, RD, CDN, CYT, Ayurvedic Specialist is the Founder, Owner and Director of Sangha Yoga Shala, a community yoga and wellness boutique located in New York City. Steadfast in her passion for healthy living, Alana obtained a master’s degree in clinical nutrition and a bachelor’s in nutrition and dietetics from New York University. Her practice includes a daily commitment to traditional mysore style ashtanga yoga, yin yoga, and mindfulness meditation. She is certified to teach through the YogaWorks teacher training program since 2008 and holds a certification to teach Yin Yoga through the Insight Yoga Institute with Sarah Powers. She is currently working towards her 500HR certification through Sara Power’s Insight Yoga Institute teacher training program.

Her classes are a unique blend of Yin and Yang Yoga influenced by Ashtanga and Alignment based Vinyasa Yoga, infused with the intelligence of mindfulness training and Chinese medicine. Every class includes a grounding meditation as well as a carefully designed sequence to nourish the muscles as well as the connective tissues supporting a balanced physical and energetic body.

Utilizing her 15 years of yoga practice as a foundation, Alana has curated a unique niche as a progressive entrepreneur, blending the values of yoga with the discipline of leadership. Since founding Sangha in 2009, she has remained committed to offering an inclusive and educational yoga environment, while maintaining a compassionately disciplined approach to business. Her work ethic and passion to inspire others is unmatched, and equal in its pure intention.

Sangha Yoga Shala is a living expression of Alana’s deep personal work, as well her unyielding desire to represent the authenticity of yoga through continuous, conscious and compassionate collaboration of the community.
